What is the difference between a traditional foam and Gelling Foam Dressing? |

A traditional foam is made of foam and will absorb fluid, but as demonstrated in in vitro testing, it does not retain as well as Gelling Foam (p<0.05), 1 which may lead to maceration of the surrounding skin. A Gelling Foam Dressing combines patented Hydrofiber® Technology and foam to provide a unique Gelling Foam Dressing that redefines patient care. |

Why is a gel good? |

What are the types of wounds where Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing can be used in place of traditional foam dressings? |

Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing can be used as a cover dressing in place of traditional foam dressings on many types of wounds including:
- Leg ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers
Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing can also be used as a secondary dressing with:
- AQUACEL® dressing for wounds requiring some level of filling
- AQUACEL® Ag dressing for wounds at risk of infection†

What level of exudate should Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing be used on? |

Any exuding wounds that would normally be managed with a traditional foam dressing. |

Can Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing be used on wounds with low exudate? |

For wounds with no exudate and low levels of exudate, the DuoDERM® range of cover dressings may be a better option. |

Will the gel in Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing cause maceration? |

The gel is designed to reduce the risk of maceration by preventing the lateral spread / wicking of fluid. |

If Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing absorbs so much exudate, could it dry out a wound once the wound moves from the inflammatory stage? |

Based on the clinical use of Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing, it should not dry out the wound. The wound contact layer is uniquely designed to prevent the wound from drying out. |

Does Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing expand into a shallow wound to give intimate contact with the wound bed? |

Yes, it is designed to expand slightly and, as demonstrated in in vitro testing, it conforms closely to the wound bed.9

Does Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing expand when it absorbs exudate to fill a wound cavity? |
| |
No. As per the previous question, it will expand slightly to conform to the wound but not to fill a cavity or deep wounds. For deep wounds, it is recommended that you use Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing as a secondary dressing in combination AQUACEL® / AQUACEL® Ag dressing. |

Can you cut Versiva® XC™ Gelling Foam Dressing? |

Yes, you can cut both the Adhesive and Non-Adhesive dressings as long as a margin is left to make the dressing pad larger than the wound. |

When should I change the dressing? |
| |
You should change the dressing when clinically indicated, when saturated with exudate, or if strike-through occurs. |
|
Do barrier creams contribute to the dressing coming off? |
| |
If there is much residue on the surrounding skin this may affect the adhesion. However, the application of barrier creams on compromised skin is standard clinical practice and if they are used, the dressing may require an additional means of retention to secure it.
